When you prepare your business travel, you may need your laptop. There are some tips for you.
If you travel without your Laptops:

Set up guest PCs in your branch offices for on-the-go employee.
Transport data on thumb-drive storage devices.
Make enterprie apps accessible by Web browser.
Use SSL VPN connections for temporary PCs to ensure security. SSL performs a disconnection cleanup so work history is automatically scrubbed from borrowed PCs.
Carry a cell phone and PDA. Even if they’re relegated to checked baggage, they have a better chance of going undamaged.

What about you travel with Laptops

If not allowed a scarry-ons, ship laptops. They’re insured and traceable.
Encrypt data so precious information isn’t lost if the machine goes missing.
If authentication tokens are used, pack them separately so thieves can’t find everything in one place.
Consider ruggedized laptops, hard-sided suitcases, or cushioned laptop cases to better withstand rough lugage handling.
Use a Transportation Security Administration combination lock on suitcases with laptops inside. TSA baggage screeners can use a master key to open the lock, search the suitcase, then relock the bag.

One more thing, if you travel with your rental car, check anything left in the car, before return it.
My friend work for Hertz, he said almost every car has something left. From flash disk to GPS devices.
