Transfer your data from iPhone with EaseUS MobiMover

It is a pretty cool app, which is the world’s first completely FREE iPhone data transfer program. It can be used to transfer data from an old iPhone to a new iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, or iPhone X, supporting iOS 11. Synchronize files from computer to the iPhone and vice versa.

You may need it if you want to upgrade your iPhone and keep your old data.

First, I would like to introduce the Free version, EaseUS MobiMover Free v3.0.  It has full functionality and features, but no technical support.

  • Using EaseUS MobiMover, you can do following jobs.
  • Migrate data from one iPhone / iPad to the other one. For example, from old one to a new one.
  • Doing the backup, data backup to a computer as an insurance.
  • Move the data to another device to free up space, because even 128G is still not big enough. If you don’t agree with it now, you will agree on it in a year.
  • iPhone / iPad data sharing. With other iOS devices.
  • Transfer multiple categories of data between two iOS devices or between iOS device and computer.
  • Adding or deleting the iPhone / iPad items freely.

Second, let me have a look. See what kind of data can be moving.

  • Contacts
  • Messages
  • Notes
  • Calendars
  • Voice Mail
  • Books
  • Safari Bookmark & History
  • Photos
  • Ringtones
  • Playlists
  • Voice Memos

Now, the Free version has no limitations on items and data for transferring.

Look at some pictures

I installed it on my Windows 10 Pro and get some screenshots for sharing.

  1. Download the EaseUS MobiMover Free installation file, which is about 33MB.
  2. Run it and just click the next until finishing the installation.
  3. Launch the installed program. It will detect if you have an iOS device connected to my Windows.

This is the screenshot when I have no iOS device connected.

You can also download the trial version of MobiMover. It can be found at this page: https://www.easeus.com/phone-transfer/mobimover.html

A Broken Western Digital 1TB Hard Disk

It is a WD10EXEZ SATA,64MB Cache 1.0TB hard disk. I bought it in the end of 2012. Now it is almost three years.

I found it is not working yesterday morning.  The Windows 7 can not found the hard drive when I boot up it. It can be found after a reboot.

But, some files are not able to access.

So I tried to do the backup all the important files. Most of the files can be copied to the backup media. The error of some missing files are shown as below.

copy-error

I have to skip these kind of files to continue. And during the backup, the disk error shown randomly.

End of Life of Dreamhost Personal Backup

Got an email from Dreamhost this morning. It announced that Dreamhost Personal Backup is retired. The last day of access of the data on my backup account is 2015-7-24.

I was using Dreamhost Personal Backup to backup my website database and sites periodically.  The free capacity is 50GB. It was a wonderful place to do the backup with ftp protocol.

Let us look at the email from DreamHost.

We’re writing to tell you that the Personal Backup feature you’ve been using has become too dated to be sustainable, and is being retired. Please note that starting 2015-07-24 Personal Backup will be turned off permanently. If you decide you don’t want to keep your data, no action is necessary.

If you would like to preserve your data, you should download it before 2015-07-24. Instructions for how to do so are available here.

Switch to bzip2 compression on my server backup scripts

Previously I used gzip as compression tool to compress the web site files and mysql database.  It is still working on my Linode server. I learned something from the compairasion from this post .

So I tried to use bzip instead of gzip on my backup script.

Here is two examples.

1) Mysqldump file, which is a text sql file.

The original sql file is 52,317KB

  • gzip with level 9 (best) compression:  23,227KB  – Compress Ratio 44.39%
  • bzip2 with default (I think it is level 9) compression: 19,666KB – Compress Ratio 37.59%

Bzip2 is smaller than gzip file. It reduced about 15%.

2) Website files, including php, jpeg, png, css, any files used in web site.

The original tar gile is 187,670KB

  • gzip compression: 42,101KB – Ratio 22.43%
  • bzip2 compression: 34,753KB – Ratio 18.51%

Bzip2 is better. Backup file size is reduced by about 17%.

I am using Backupify to backup my tweets. Now it announced that this service is discontinued.

Your TweetBackup account will continue to back up for the next 30 days, until June 13th. Access to the service, and your data, will be disabled on June 28th. You will have the full 45 days to export any data. Please visit our Tweetbackup service shutdown FAQs answers to common questions, or you can also contact support directly with your questions.

Large mySQL database transferring

To transfer the the large mySQL database, you need to learn how to use command to do it.
Large, means the database is bigger than 8 MB after compressing.
phpmyadmin, is a wonderful web tool for mySQL. But the limitation of upload is 8 MB. If the backup file is larger than it, you can not upload it, of course can not import it.
The platform I am working is Linux, Centos. It is ssh command environment.
1) Backup, export all tables of one database into one file.

mysqldump -u root -p databasename | gzip > backup.sql.tar.gz

I use this command to backup my forum database. The result is gzip file, means after compressing. I have a database is above 500MB. The gz file is about 125MB.
When I have the gz file, I can download it to my PC, or put it on other server for transferring.
