I have a Home Server at home.
It should have following functions:

  • Printer server;

  • Fire sharing server;

  • AMP server, including Apache, MySQL, PHP for testing purpose;

  • P2P client to download something for fun with web interface;

  • Backup server, to backup the files on the desktops in home lan.

P2P software, I use aMule.

Backup, I want to use Restore, but failed. They don't have the release for Ubuntu 8.04. Someone said it is good on 7.10.
A lot of request for the 8.04 version posted on its forum. I have to wait for the new one.

The way to install Restore is here:

I tried to install SP3 on my wife's Compaq desktop. It has Windows XP Home Edition.

In the first time. I installed SP3 within the Windows Updates. When it restarted after the installation, it did not boot normally. It failed and auto-rebooted, then stay in the boot menu.
I can boot in the Safe Mode.

So I remove the SP3 and downgrade it in Safe mode.

I don't know what's wrong with SP3 or this Compaq.

Later I Googled a guide tell me the problem is created by HP (Compaq).

First problem, affecting AMD-based computers with OEM images, primarily HP Desktops

Just like Compaq Presario SR1520nx. It has AMD Sempron 1.8 GHz CPU and SIS chipset.

To double check the problem, do the following steps.
You may not see the error code because the computer reboots too fast. ( Just like me)To force the computer to stop when it crashes, you need to set an option during startup. To do so, hit the F8 key during restart right when you see the black Windows XP screen come up. Then select the "Disable automatic restart on system failure" option, as shown below:

Click "Restart Firefox Now" button to start upgrade.

It is very quick to upgrade Firefox.

It is a Security Update. I recommend every Firefox user to upgrade.
Crash in JavaScript garbage collector is fixed.

Mozilla release this version for just one security issue. That means it is very important.

A lot of pre-installed Windows XP on the new computers are English version.
Some of my friends know little English. They prefer Chinese.

So the question is how to convert the task bar and menu list of XP from English to Traditional Chinese or Simplified Chinese.
The answer is Microsoft Multilingual User Interface (MUI).

MUI is an add-on to the English version of Windows XP Professional and Windows 2000 family of operating systems, and will not install on localized versions of Windows XP/2000 or on Windows XP Home Edition. Every additional language installed will require approximately 115 MB extra disk space for Windows XP, 45MB for Windows 2000; East Asian language support requires an additional 250 MB.

Microsoft Office also has its own Multilingual User Interface. (Office MUI)

Dreamhost has a One-Click installation facility including Joomla!.
It has Joomla! 1.5.1 upgrading already.

But the 1.5.2 released last week.

The problem I met is the One-Click upgrade does not work. I tried many times on different domain/site.

Yesterday, I manually upgraded it.
It is very easy and simple.
Just download the upgrade pack and decompress it, upload it.

Download it.
I chose the Joomla_1.5.0_to_1.5.2-Stable-Patch_Package.zip

I just upgraded to Joomla! 1.5.1 through Dreamhost one-click installation yesterday.

Today, Joomla released 1.5.2.

Let's see the new features or bug fixes of it.
* Support for non-Gregorian date output
* Removed dependency on server locales for date output
* TCPDF Upgraded:
o Supports RTL languages
o Supports GIF images inline in generated PDF (if PHP extension GD2 is enabled)
* Fix for cache folder deletion with legacy mode enabled
* Disable page caching when debug is enabled
* Ability to disable Flash Uploader in Media Manager
* OpenID functionality fixes
* Advanced article filtering options now available using Article Preferences

API Changes:

* Addition of JFactory::getDate() to get a JDate object (supports overloading of JDate for non-Gregorian dates)
* Addition of JExit()
* JView::get() defers correctly to JObject::get()

Some thing good.

Dreamhost has a one-click install function. It is easy to install a new program. Now I will go through the Joomla! 1.5 installation.

In the Web Panel of Dreamhost, choose googies > One-Click Install
Choose the Joomla! 1.5 and site/directory to be installed, and also give the name of database.

Later, I receive an email tell the steps of installation. I added some screenshot on it to make it vivid.

Site: http://www.yourdomain.com/

Now visit the site to finish your installation with these settings:

1 : Language
select 'en-GB - English (United Kingdom)' and click Next

After 2 and half years development, the Joomla! 1.5 released now.

It is a long waiting. I will hurry to install this new system to test it and try to migrate my Joomla 1.0 site.

To download it, click here.

Installation Instructions
Fresh Installation

Upgrade Instructions
From Joomla! 1.5 RC4

Migration Instructions
From Joomla! 1.0.x

My suggestion is to try the clean install first. Be familiar with the new user interface, administrator end and template. Then you can see how do you migrate your old one. Or just use the new Joomla 1.5.
