I am going to make a review for a 2GB VPS on Hetzner.
Last week, I tried to sign up on Hetzner. But it declined my request with the reason of security. Today, I tried it again and upload my driver’s license to validate my ID. This time, it approved my new account.
So I get a chance to take a trial on this famous VPS service provider.
I ordered the VPS, type CPX11. Located at Hillsboro, OR data center.
- 2vCPU
- 2GB RAM
- 40GB SSD
- 20TB Traffic
The dashboard of it as below:

First, check the hardware specs:
dmidecode 3.3Getting SMBIOS data from sysfs.SMBIOS 2.8 present.Handle 0x0400, DMI type 4, 42 bytesProcessor InformationSocket Designation: CPU 0Type: Central ProcessorFamily: OtherManufacturer: QEMUID: 10 0F 83 00 FF FB 8B 07Version: NotSpecifiedVoltage: UnknownExternal Clock: UnknownMax Speed: 2000 MHzCurrent Speed: 2000 MHzStatus: Populated, EnabledUpgrade: OtherL1 Cache Handle: Not ProvidedL2 Cache Handle: Not ProvidedL3 Cache Handle: Not ProvidedSerial Number: Not SpecifiedAsset Tag: Not SpecifiedPart Number: Not SpecifiedCore Count: 2Core Enabled: 2Thread Count: 1Characteristics: None |
It doesn’t tell the actual module of the CPU but did say it is a 2Ghz, 2 core. I know it is an AMD EPYC processor.
Sysbench Test

Wow, 3674.65 events per second. It is so fast.
Check the two Core performances.

About 7336 events per second.

If you saw my previous review of GCP VM or Contabo VPS, Hetznet’s VPS is much better.
I also check the Ping value and tracert number from my desktop.
Ping VPS IP, Minimum 15ms, Maximum 61ms, Average 29ms.
The tracert result is 13 hops.
When I run the tracert command to the Contabo VPS, it is 19 hops. the ping average is 163ms because my Contabo VPS is located in Germany.
I like to have the server close to my location. I like to have a powerful CPU and faster Storage. Hetzner CPX11 cost me Euro 3.85/month and Euro 0.5 for IP. The total is Euro 4.35 per month, convert to US dollars is US$4.70.
