Today, I tried running the Crypto Mining on my two PCs.  The results are fun.

I asked everything on the Microsoft Copilot desktop App. It explained which crypto is good for CPU mining, how to get the software, how to run it, etc.

The very first question which crypto is still minable.

I don’t have a GPU on my PC.  My desktop is a Ryzen 5 5600G. The other PC is an i5 6500 powered on Ubuntu 24.04.. So Copilot told me Monero(XMR), VerusCoin(VRSC), and Wownero(WOW) can be mined.

So I decided to do Monero mining.

1) Download XMRig software

2) Create a Monero address

3) Join a pool

4) Run the script(program)

Get a Monero Address

https://wallet.mymonero.com/

Create a new Wallet, copy the Monero Address. I will need it later.

Write down the seeds on paper. It is the key to accessing the wallet

Choose a pool

I choose MoneroOcean

https://moneroocean.stream/

Download the software

Windows 11

Go to the XMRig official website to download the Windows version program.

https://xmrig.com/download

Decompress it to the desktop or any folder you know.

The anti-virus software may treat it as a virus; you can ignore it. Make sure you download it from the official website.

Create a bat file,

start-xmr.bat

.

Enter the following content.

xmrig.exe -o gulf.moneroocean.stream:80 -u 45JM3W3BTdkFSK8yVJxFtcjR7hDsvYa9PexNNmqiPWME967UULBJhtCiYuVYYwCJjUJGeFQGJwRYKeiF6a2i6waKUiEYrnT
-p mywindows --coin monero
pause

Ubuntu 24.04

Prepare

sudo apt update
sudo apt install git build-essential cmake libuv1-dev libssl-dev libhwloc-dev

Download and build the XMRig

git clone https://github.com/xmrig/xmrig.git
cd xmrig
mkdir build && cd build
cmake ..
make -j$(nproc)

Run the program

Windows 11

Double-click the bat file created above.

Ubuntu 22.04

https://moneroocean.stream/
./xmrig -o gulf.moneroocean.stream:443 -u 45JM3W3BTdkFSK8yVJxFtcjR7hDsvYa9PexNNmqiPWME967UULBJhtCiYuVYYwCJjUJGeFQGJwRYKeiF6a2i6waKUiEYrnT -p myubuntu --coin monero --tls

If there is a connection error, try using a different port. For example, change 443 to 80, remove

--tls

.

Check the result

Go to the MoneroOcean Dashboard

https://moneroocean.stream/

Enter the address, and see the result.

From the screenshot above, you will find two workers. It means two computers running same time. Mining with the same address.

One is myubuntu, it is on the PC with Ubuntu 24.04, Intel i5 6500, 16G RAM.

The other one is x, it is on Windows 11, AMD Ryzen 5 5600G, 44GB RAM.

They are almost the same powerful in mining Crypto. I did not do any finetune or optimization to use every power of the PC. All default.

I can tell the total earnings in a day are $0.08 or 8 cents. It is just a toy. For fun.

I restarted both machines. Run the XMRig again.

Ryzen 5 5600G is better than i5 6500.
