My Proxmox VE is running on the old PC.

  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B450M DS3H
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2400G
  • RAM: 2X8GB 2400Mhz DDR4
  • Storage: 1TB NVMe SSD, WD Blue SN570

16GB Host

Last week, I ordered a 2X8GB kit on Amazon.ca. Cost me $43.99 plus tax.

Turned off the system, and inserted these two memory sticks into the Motherboard. Power on.

root@pve:~# grep MemTotal /proc/meminfo

And also, I run the command to check the details of the RAM on board.
sudo dmidecode --type 17

There are two types of memory. One is the new TIMETEC-U8G-2666, Timetec 16GB KIT(2x8GB) DDR4 2666MHz PC4-21300 Unbuffered Non-ECC 1.2V CL19 1Rx8 Single Rank 288 Pin UDIMM Desktop PC Computer Memory RAM Module Upgrade (16GB KIT(2x8GB)).

The other one is CMK16GX4M2Z2400C16, Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 2400MHz C16 Desktop Memory Kit – Black (CMK16GX4M2Z2400C16).

The new memory can run on 2666Mhz standard, but it has to be reduced to 2400Mhz because it is mixed with the old 2400Mhz memory stickers. Anyway, 2400Mhz is good enough on my Proxmox VE machine.

Right now three virtual machines running on it, with at least 6GB of memory per VM.
