Grace is a kind of bookworm

| 1 Comment | No TrackBacks

I went to Burnaby Public Library with my daughters, Grace and Gloria.

I borrowed three books, Windows Server Hacks, Windows Server Cookbook and JavaScript for Dummies. Just three.
Grace, my six years old daughter and her little sister Gloria, three years old, borrowed 21 books. Seven times of mine.

They like reading, both of them.

Sometimes I have to say, Grace, have a rest for your eyes. Or, Grace, go out to play your bicycle.

It is inherited from me, I think. I like reading different kinds of books.

We bought a dictionary for Grace. Each of her classmats has a dictionary from school. The teacher said, the dictionary of school is too easy for her. So Vivian asked which one is suitable. Then we bought this one. Collins Gage Canadian Junior Dictionary at Chapters.

The words on the cover are:
The leading reference for Young Writers

This dictionary is so good, with over 30000 entry words, and lots of full-colour illustrations.
When she reading some book, stopped by a word, she can use this dictionary. She knows how to use it.

She learns so quick.

I am proud of her.

As I mentioned that Google give $10 bonus to new Checkout user.

But the most important things is how can I find the store to use this credit.

The stores listed are for USA user only. They don't ship to Canada.

Anyone use Google Checkout in Canada, please let me know.

Then I can use this $10 before expiring day.

FastStone Capture

I introduced some FastStone programs before. I used this FastStone Capture so often and I feel this tool is good enough. It is better than some commercial products.

I respected FastStone's work to make it free. Thank you.

First of all, let's see the screen of it.
faststone-capture-53.jpg

It can capture screen by:
Active Window;
Window or Object;
Selected rectangle region;
Selected region with freehand;
Full screen or whole monitor;
Scrolling window. -- This is very good feature, you know, some window is very long, and you want capture the whole page, not the one screen. This tool is so good to save your time. Look at the sample below.

Google provide Checkout service last year, I think. More and more online-stores accept this kind of payment.

To promote this Checkout, Google announce a $10 sign-up bonus.

You'd be hurry to sign-up a new Google Checkout account.
• Sign up by February 15, 2007 and we'll automatically apply your bonus to your first
purchase of $10 or more (pre-shipping & tax) from participating stores.
• Bonus expires March 31, 2007 and can't be used with other Checkout promotions.
• Limit one per buyer only.

Let me show you how to sign up.
1) Enter http://www.google.com/checkout/
You need a Google Account to use this service.

2) Sign in with your Google Account.

3) Fill in the form with your Credit Card information.

4) Now you have the Google Checkout and $10 bonus.

Notice:

You know I received one cheque from ReviewMe. I always think it is an independent Ads service provider.
Just like the email I received from them. They put the signature as below before:

ReviewMe

support@reviewme.com

http://www.reviewme.com

Today I received an email with the following signature:

ReviewMe Publisher Support

support@reviewme.com

ReviewMe a division of Text Link Ads

Now I know actually ReviewMe is a division of Text Link Ads.

Extension reading:
ReviewMe Review from Devlounge

I have a site which is hosted by 1and1. It is down last week about 8 or 9 hours.

I remember that it has a 99.99% uptime guarantee.

So, I send an email to them and get the confirmation to reimburse me 3 month free hosting.

1and1 is a trustworthy company.
Their hosting plan is good enough for me and some other users.

Look, they have a lot of free software for site owners.

If you need some hosting or domain, go there. I recommend 1and1.

To check domain, use the following tool.

Now I upgrade my AWstats from 6.5 to 6.6. All safe.

1) Backup all files in your wwwroot. Just in case.

2) Download the awstats-6.6.zip, and decompress it.

3) Copy the files in wwwroot and replace the old files.

4) Done.

The configuration file is same. I don't need to change anything, just copy and paste.

AWStats 6.6 is comming

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

AWStats is a very powerful log analysis tool.
I still remember last update for AWStats 6.5 half year ago.

First of all, let's see the changes it bring in.
New features/improvements:
- All geoip plugins support the PurePerl version.
- Possible use of vhost in extra section.
- Support IPv6 in AllowAccessFromWebToFollowingIPAddresses parameter.
- Added svn family to browsers detection.

Fixes:
- Remove some Perl warnings.
- Remove lc() on translation strings.
- Not sanitized migrate parameter.
- Not sanitized urlxxx parameters that could be used for XSS attacks.

Other/Documentation:
- Added AWStats version in stdout outputs.
- Updated some language files.
- Updated browsers database.

Compare with the last version 6.5, there is not many changes this time.
I will update my AWstats to-night.

Last weekend, there were reports on a higher probability of an earthquake in western canada.
CBC news said:

Seismic scientists say there is a greater probability of a major earthquake on B.C.'s South Coast in the next week, following a series of minor quakes that have worked their way up from Washington.

But seismologist Garry Rogers of the Geological Survey of Canada added that despite the increased probability of a big quake, the chances are still very low.

Some people heard the news and go to store to buy lots of water and some homeowner and business man go to buy earthquake coverage for their home or business insurance.

Please be noticed, most of insurance company may accept these mid-term changes, but they will retain the additional premium of addition of earthquake coverage, i.e. no refund if such coverage is to be cancelled later.

Do you have the Shaw Digital box, DCT2000? If you say yes, you can use it to control almost all equipment with this controller.

Just program your remote controller and you can throw away your TV's, DVD's. VCR's, and Receivers's remote controllers.
Then you just use one universal controller. You may never ask your family members to look for some controller in your house.
