DNS update : Shaw vs. Telus

| 3 Comments | No TrackBacks

I changed my site's DNS setting through 1and1 yesterday. The site can not be reached about 1 day average. The same situation I met almost two or three times a year.

I browse my site properly last night. I use Shaw Cable at home. They always update their DNS server very quickly.

The problem is Telus. I have nothing to do in my office this morning, which use Telus.
Telus's DNS server still has my old IP address.

How to access my site?

I changed TCP/IP setting in my workstation.
Firstly, get the IP address of DNS server from my home computer.
Click Run, enter command to get the command prompt.
Enter ipconfig/all, records the IP address of DNS Servers.

Secondly, go to my office PC, in TCP/IP properties, enter the IP address I got above into the preferred DNS server.

Now I can use the Shaw's DNS server through Telus Internet connection.

Remove Adware.roogoo

| 1 Comment | 1 TrackBack

The office computer always displayed a Symantec warning, which said Adware.roogoo is found and removed last week. I trust this virus is not removed, because this warning window poped every day.
I search Symantec site.

Behavior
Adware.Roogoo is adware that installs a Layered Service Provider that monitors network traffic. The risk reports Google search terms back to its controlling domain and may display pop-up advertisements.

A lot of Ad popup windows every day.
I have to fixit by myself.

The steps as below:
1) Download LSPFix.exe

WGA is gone

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

There are so many searches for WGA Logon. I am not the expert in this area, hacker.
I just found a way to go around the WGA logon.

Yesterday I reviewed the Awstats (Advanced Web Statistics 6.5) statistics there is still a lot of visitors from everwhere, just for this solution.

The terms, "remove wga", "how to remove wga", or some other terms with this two words, always on top of the list of Search Keyphrases and Search Keywords lists.

That means some people still have this problem.

Make a bootable USB disk

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

I have three USB disks. Yesterday, I thought I can make a bootable USB disk and finally I chose the PNY attache 1 GB.

The problem is I don't know how to make a bootable USB disk. I searched the PNY site, found nothing.

I did a lot of research. One site is bootdisk.com.
The real cool tool is HP Drive Key Boot Utility.
This tool is made for HP's usb disk, but it is also working on other brand USB disks.

I tried it in my PNY attache disk. It is so quick to make a bootable disk without any reboot.

Baidu Index

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

Baidu learns Google so fast. The new Baidu Index is also based on the invitation.
This is a Google Trends linke service.

Firstly, I asked hao7, my friend in Adsenser. I knew he has some.

He told me that all invitation has been given away. Later, he asked anther nice guy, lonely, who has some. Finally, I got one from lonely.

I always say that friends is the person who will help you and never ask for return.

I do some search in the data recovery tools. Not for regular one. I need a tool which can recover the data in a dynamic volume.
This is a harddisk used in the Windows 2003 Server. I have two disks with RAID 1 as mirror.

Because of the power failure, the disk are damaged and can not be booted.

I can not even access the data in the dynamic volume.

Here are two tools I downloaded and tried last Sunday.
Data Recovery Wizard Professional 3.0 and Restorer2000 PRO 3.0
They all support dynamic volume recovery.

I just tried one disk and not for the completed test. I used the DEMO version only.
I feld the restorer 2000 Pro 3.0 is much quicker than Data Recovery Wizard Pro when scan the disk.
In the DEMO version, Restorer 2000 Pro can recover files with size up to 128 kb and preview all graphic, video and audio files even if their size is bigger than 128 kb.

If you just want to recover the small files, you don't need to buy them. Restorer 2000 Pro is good for you.

SEO Website Marketing Blog

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

This week I start a new blog. "SEO 网站优化推广", means SEO Website Optimizing and Marketing.
There are so many website owners in China. Most of them use the what we call Balck Hat SEO to get more traffic. It maybe work in a short time. Maybe not. The number of visitor may be going up very quickly and the traffic will be die very soon.
The Search Engine like Google is not work as well as they do in English world. The Chinese is different.
The Chinese site owners are slso different.

They are still live in their own side. They have no chance to see what happened outside of the Mainland China.

Some guy mentioned whay way they used to SEO their site. Actully this methord is already found by Google two years ago. It is not working any more.

I trust the natural traffic is best, and natual SEO is best too.

To build this new blog will take a lot of time from my spare time.
It is still worth to do it. I hope my Chinese will be better and better. No more cheap.

TagSupplementals Plugin

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

This is a really good plugin. It works smoothly with Tag in MovableType 3.31.

TagSupplementals provide some convenient features I needed.

The features added is shown as below:
# MTEntryTagsCount variable tag
# MTRelatedEntries container tag
# MTRelatedTags container tag
# MTTagLastUpdated variable tag
# encode_urlplus global filter
# MTSearchTags container tag
# MTXSearchTags container tag
# MTTagXSearchLink variable tag

If you look at the individual archive of this blog. you will find some new things.
The related entries are shown under the post. It use the MTRelatedEntries tag to get the related entries based on the same tag of every entries.

It provide the users the chance to read the related post without search again. All entries have same tag are linked together.

Because of the power supply failed on saturday morning, the site is down over 24 hours.

I recovered over 99% data and support plat of this server.

After this crash, I am so happy I have the latest offline backup on DVD. I also have a disk mirror to get the latest seven posts I posted during last week.

So for the Server, the backup is very important. I'd like to discuss about disaster managerment and some usefull tools..

Voipstunt put some fineprint in the bottom of their homepage. It is even under the copyright description.

They set a limit of free calls. 300 minutes per week. It means 42 minutes per day. Not much.

I still remember there was no limit for it when I signup. I don't know when they add this limit they have't disclosed to the current users.

* Max 300 minutes per week of free calls, measured over the last 7 days. Unused free minutes cannot be taken to the following week(s). If limit is exceeded, a minimal rate of 1ct/min will be charged (as shown in the VoipStunt software).

Send SMS by Voipstunt

| 1 Comment | No TrackBacks

Now send a text-message (SMS) is also very easy through the backgroud of Voipstunt

It will charge you 5Ct per message. The speed is very fast. I clicked the send button and received the message at my cellphone in 10 seconds.

To use this feature, you have to signin your Voipstunt account. Enter your text and phone number. That's all.

The only issue which is not good is you can only send the text to the country code with +1, +3 and +4.

MovableType 3.31 introduced Tag as a new feature.

I'd like to tell you how to build a perfect Tag Cloud page.

1) Create a new Index template. Add the html code as below.

tagcloud-template.jpg

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" id="sixapart-standard"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=<$MTPublishCharset$>" /> <meta name="generator" content="David Yin" /> <link rel="stylesheet" href="<$MTBlogURL$>styles-site.css" type="text/css" /> <link rel="alternate" type="application/atom+xml" title="Atom" href="<$MTBlogURL$>atom.xml" /> <link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="RSS 2.0" href="<$MTBlogURL$>index.xml" /> <title>Tag cloud : <$MTBlogName encode_html="1"$></title> <link rel="EditURI" type="application/rsd+xml" title="RSD" href="<$MTBlogURL$>rsd.xml" /> </head> <body class="layout-one-column"> <div id="container"> <div id="container-inner" class="pkg"> <div id="banner"> <div id="banner-inner" class="pkg"> <h1 id="banner-header"><a href="<$MTBlogURL$>" accesskey="1"><$MTBlogName encode_html="1"$></a></h1> <h2 id="banner-description"><$MTBlogDescription$></h2> </div> </div> <div id="pagebody"> <div id="pagebody-inner" class="pkg"> <div id="alpha"> <div id="alpha-inner" class="pkg"> <h3 class="entry-header"> Tag Cloud </h3> <MTTags> <a href="<$MTTagSearchLink$>" class="tag<$MTTagRank max="7"$>"><$MTTagName$></a> </MTTags> </div> <hr/> <p> This Tag Cloud page is designed by <a href="http://www.yinfor.com/blog/">David Yin.</a> </p> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </body> </html>

As we know, Google has a new data center call Big Daddy.
The only information we have is that it is in the Dulles, Ore..
I searched the web. Nothing found. Oh, I got it.

New York Times has an article about Google's new site, although it wrongly defines as “Googleplex”.

This data center will be two to three football fields in size and will include four big cooling towers. The 30-acre site is at the intersection of cheap power, cheap cooling and volumes of Internet access.

Whild little is known about the full size of Google's data center, best estimates put the number of custom-built, Linux systems at around a half milliion and growing. The cost of it is about billions of dollars.

Work like a donkey

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

Have you seen this before?

A donkey with a mask is working so hard. It never say NO.

This photo was taken in someplace in China.

The current Chinese government also want the people work like a donkey.
Great FireWall is a big mask for Internet users of China.

If you can not see, you will focus on the Job. If you can not think, you will trust everything the CP said.

How to add Tag Cloud

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

One of the new features of MovableType 3.31 is Tag. I still use the old template files. I don't know if the new template includes it or not.

The tag is good facility to organize post by tag word. You can also know which tag word is mentioned most often.

Let me DIY my templates.
1) Add a module, Tag Cloud.

tagcloudmodule.jpg

Just update this blog. This is the first post after updating.

To make it work smoothly, I changed my IIS setting following by Http Header Error again in MovableType 3.31

Mt-Check also works. Current working directory and MT home directory are same now.
The http header error has gone.

Regulate Kids with computer

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

There is a poll, which tells that 87% of U.S. teens (ages 12 to 17) use the Internet. They go online at a high rate to play games (81%) and use instant messaging (75%).

The rate of teens in other countries are almost same. How can we, as parents, to help our kids to use the computer or Internet properly.

Here are three tips.

1) During the school year, no online time or games until homework is completed, unless online research is required.

2) Regardless of the time of year, set a limit on the amount of time your teen can spend online or playing games each day or each week.

I have three usb flash drives as below:
